Who Qualifies For Verizon Wireless Military Discount

A military member, veteran, cadet or Gold Star family member is eligible for the Verizon military discount. Military member is defined as active duty, Guard, or Reserve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard.

All uniformed services including NOAA and the US Public Health Service are also eligible.

Military family members and military spouses are eligible for the discount as long as the veteran or servicemember is the primary account holder.

Military cadets at the service academies such as West Point Military Academy, Annapolis Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs are eligible for the discount. Cadets in ROTC should be eligible as well if they are contracted and have a military ID.

Military retirees are eligible for the Verizon military discount as they fall under the veteran category.

Verizon International Plans Use Roaming

International roaming is what allows your cell phone stay connected when out of the country. It’s not as simple as it is at home because the wireless networks and data carriers in other countries are different. Since you aren’t subscribed to these networks, Verizon pays them for you and you pay Verizon.

To use roaming, make sure that your SIM card is inserted if your SIM isn’t embedded in the device. Once you arrive at your destination, your phone will try to connect with a local cell phone tower. This will activate roaming automatically, and your Verizon international plan will go into effect.

If I Suspend Service Because My Device Was Lost Or Stolen Will My Device Still Be Usable

When you suspend service using this option, Verizon also blocks your device from connecting to our Verizon network on any Verizon wireless account to prevent anyone who finds or stole your device from using it on our network.However, suspending service won’t affect someone’s ability to access the content and apps on the device, especially if the device wasn’t protected with a password. How Does The Lost Or Stolen Suspension Option Work

If your device is lost or stolen, you can temporarily suspend your line of service for up to 30 days to prevent unauthorized usage and charges on your account. When you suspend service using this option, Verizon also blocks your device from connecting to our network on any Verizon wireless account to prevent anyone who finds or stole your device from using it on our network.Before your 30 days are up, you must reconnect service to the line using the same device or a replacement device. If you donât reconnect a device to that line within 30 days, the line will automatically disconnect and you will lose the telephone number. Last week Verizon announced new discounts for US military members including active-duty military, reservists, Gold Star families and veterans.

These new discounts apply specifically to Verizon’s newest Unlimited Plans – the Three Tier Go, Above, and Beyond plans. Most older plans are still subject to typical military discounts.

Specific Military Discounts

While Verizon has historically offered percentage discount to US service member and families, they have now added dollar specific military discounts to select plans.

Go Unlimited 4-Line Plan

Verizon is now offering qualified military members the Go Unlimited plan for $120/ month for 4 lines. You must have 4 lines on a Go Unlimited Plan to receive this pricing. Regularly, 4 lines of Go Unlimited is $160/month – so this represents a $10/line discount.

Go Unlimited plans are the most restrictive of Verizon’s current unlimited offerings. Drawbacks include:

• Always network managed
• All hotspotted data is throttled to 600 kpbs
• Video quality is always reduced to 480p
• No international use is included on these plans
• Interesting that Go Unlimited was chosen to be the ‘headline discount’ for Verizon Military without providing any international data! This makes this plan an especially poor option for active military members who may be stationed overseas.

What Are The Restrictions

The Verizon military discount does come with a few restrictions that you will want to keep in mind.

First, you need to show proof of your military status to claim this deal, as explained above.

It also cannot be combined with any other deals.

This means that if you have another discount, such as an employer discount, you will want to choose the better deal to use on your Verizon account.

You need to have a phone plan that costs at least $35 per month to get any amount off from the military discount.

The accessory deal may exclude certain products, including specific brands, clearance items, etc.

This piece of the discount also cannot be combined with any other coupons, deals, or promotions.

What We Dont Like About At& t Unlimited Starter For Military Plan

Slow streaming speeds

Sadly, this plan caps your video streaming speed at 1.5 Mbps. That means even your standard definition content on Netflix is going to be a bit grainy, at best.

Coverage isn’t quite the best

Theres a small gap between AT& T and Verizon when it comes to coverage, but AT& Ts coverage is still second-best. Putting it in this section sounds a bit nit-picky, and it probably is, but you should know that the cheaper monthly price comes with coverage thats less than the best.

If you live in a big city, though, and you dont go out in the country too often, AT& T should provide you with solid coverage.

If I Suspend Service Using The Suspension For Military Deployment Option How Long Will My Mobile Telephone Number Remain Available To Me

When your service is suspended using the suspension for Military Deployment option, Verizon will hold your telephone number for the period of your relocation, up to a maximum time of 3 years and 90 days.After this time period, the line of service will automatically be disconnected and the mobile number will no longer be reserved for you. If you had an active device payment prior to suspending service and the line is disconnected, the remaining balance of the device agreement is due on your final bill.
