ITS GO TIME!
Sergeant Georgia Varoucha immigrated to the United States from Greece when she was thirteen. After graduating high school, she joined the New Jersey Army National Guard, and received her citizenship while in basic training.
In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can. You dont have to be the fastest or the strongest, the smartest or the most capable, and Ive never been the best at anything, really, but, Ive always been stubborn and driven by the fact we only have one life to make our dreams come true.

How Does An Army Base Salary Compare To Pay In The Private

When you consider affordable health care for part-time Soldiers and free health care for full-time Soldiers, plus access to bonuses, allowances for housing, food, and clothing, opportunities to get a college degree without incurring debt, and more financial benefits, the Army offers a more competitive choice to similar civilian careers. Your Army base salary is just one part of the total compensation Soldiers receive. While civilian jobs may pay higher base salaries, the Army offers a starting salary above the federal minimum wage for a 40-hour work week, 30 days paid leave every year, plus a variety of benefits on top of your base pay that add up.

Military Struggles With Recruiting Especially The Army
Every branch of the military is struggling to meet its fiscal 2022 recruiting goals, multiple reports say, with the Army having the most difficulty.
The Army has met about 40% of its enlisted recruiting mission for this fiscal year with three months remaining.
Fortunately, the final quarter summer is usually when the service recruits the most candidates following high school graduations.
Army National Guard recruiters are not faring much better.
As of June 15, the Army Guard had recruited 48.1% of its fiscal 2022 goal of 38,430 new soldiers, the National Guard Bureau says.
The Army Guard hasn’t met its recruiting mission since fiscal 2019, reaching 80.6% in fiscal 2021. Excellent retention has made up the difference.
The active-component Army is bracing for the struggle ahead.
Service officials involuntarily extended its top performing recruiters and waived the requirement for recruits to have high school diplomas through the end of the fiscal year Sept. 30.
Army officials are also offering a $35,000 bonus to new recruits willing to sign a four-year contract and ship out to basic training camp within 45 days amid the struggle to quickly fill open training slots, per reports.
The Army hedged its bets for fiscal 2023 by requesting an active-component personnel end strength of 12,000 less troops than this fiscal year.
Much of the recruiting problem seemingly stems from negative perceptions of the military among young people, the recruiting base for every component.
Regular Army Army National Guard Partnership
In 2016, the Army and the Army National Guard began a training and readiness initiative that aligned some Army brigades with National Guard division headquarters, and some National Guard brigades with Army division headquarters. Among others, this program included the National Guard’s 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team becoming affiliated with the Army’s 10th Mountain Division and the National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment affiliating with the Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. In addition, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division began an affiliation with the National Guard’s 36th Infantry Division.
Upon the creation of the United States Air Force in 1947, the National Guard Bureau was organized into two divisions Army National Guard and Air National Guard. Each were headed by a major general who reported to the chief of the National Guard Bureau. The head of the Army National Guard was originally established as the chief of the Army Division at the National Guard Bureau. The position was downgraded to brigadier general in 1962 due to force reduction. It was renamed to Director of the Army National Guard and elevated back to major general in 1970. The position was later elevated to the rank of lieutenant general in 2001. The Army National Guard is also authorized a deputy director which was originally established as a brigadier general office in 1970. It was elevated to the rank of major general in 2006.

National Guard Recruiting Good Despite Challenges
The Army National Guard expects to meet its recruiting goal this year, even though a senior official said the component has been grappling with many of the same challenges faced by the Regular Army and Army Reserve.
Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said the Army National Guard is in a pretty good spot today at about 99% strength for the current recruiting year.
But he also acknowledged that private sector businesses have begun laying down hurdles by offering many of the benefits once only provided by the military, such as educational opportunities, signing bonuses and other enticements.
National Guard recruiting is keeping up because it is very localized and many of the units have been in a community for a long time, Hokanson said. Generations of family members who see the value that that provides help maintain a strong tradition of serving, he said May 9 during a webinar hosted by the Heritage Foundation.
In the current recruiting environment, he said, the National Guard is keen to draw the interest of non-prior service individuals, people coming straight off the street, which is where the competition with the private sector comes in, as well as a dearth across the nation of those willing to serve or fit to serve.
There’s a lot of competition for those folks, he said. Ultimately, as we get toward the end of the year, we’ll kind of see where we’re at.
