St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy was founded in 1884 as St. John’s Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin, by the Rev. Sidney T. Smythe as a private, college preparatory school. In 1995, Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, merged with St. John’s Military Academy to become St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy on the Delafield campus. And, in 2020, a Leadership Academy was added and we became St. John’s Northwestern Academies. SJNA is a coed independent boarding and day school for boys and girls in grades 712. St. John’s Northwestern Summer Academy offers Little Lancers Day Camp, Summer OPS, and ESL courses.

Athletics Encourage Good Health And Foster Teamwork

The athletic program at SJNMA has helped to teach students the value of teamwork, discipline, and training since 1884. The school teams are known as Lancers and the school colors are red and purple. Sports are available to all students at the middle school, Junior Varsity, and Varsity levels. Athletic participation helps to promote an active lifestyle, which can lead to better health throughout life. It also helps to develop good leadership qualities in young men.

Sports that students can choose from include standard sports like soccer, football, baseball, basketball and track & field. In addition, they can also choose from other interesting athletic pursuits like swimming, cross-country, wrestling, riflery, tennis, lacrosse, hockey, and golf. There is a nine-hole golf course on the campus of St. Johns Northwestern Military Academy, which is also open to the public.

Northwestern Military And Naval Academy

Northwestern Military Academy was a high school in Linn, Wisconsin which was founded by Harlan Page Davidson. Originally located in Highland Park, Illinois, the school was relocated to the town of Linn, Wisconsin on the south shore of Geneva Lake near the city of Lake Geneva in 1915 and was renamed Northwestern Military and Naval Academy before merging with SJNMA.

During the academy’s century of operation at this location , its primary goal was to mold young men, grades 712, into outstanding citizens, eager and ready for higher levels of education. The institution adhered to the visions and principles of Davidson which adopted military structure and religious principles into an exceptionally sound educational program. The results were a capstone curriculum which ranked the academy as one of the most prestigious schools within the nation. Within the later years of its operation the institution decided to expand upon its enrollment spectrum and began accepting students from the 7th and 8th grade level.

Class ratios are about nine students for every teacher. All students follow a military styled structure including wearing uniforms which display rank of students, similar to the military. Students work hard to excel and to earn rank, which helps to instill a good work ethic into them. All students can take courses that are advanced and can lead them to earn college credits.
