Financial Help From Salvation Army In Oklahoma

Most of the Oklahoma centers provide emergency financial assistance and social services such as electric bill and rent assistance, food, gasoline and emergency transportation. The Salvation Army will also tend to provide homeless services through its family shelter. A number of seasonal services are offered as well such as winter coats, back-to-school supplies, clothing, Christmas gifts to children, and friendly home visits to seniors.

Housing assistance can be provided from comprehensive shelters as well as family and transitional housing. The shelters will welcome all homeless, regardless of age or sex, across the region that come to their door. Family housing will provide assistance including life and career skills enhancement, support in finding a more permanent home, case management, and more. Rent as well as security deposit assistance can be offered to those facing eviction, as the Salvation Army wants to ideally help prevent homelessness. They are also a place to learn about .

After using a Salvation Army shelter in Oklahoma, the next step is Transitional housing. This is generally offered for people who have been in a shelter for six months or more. But terms can vary. Programs offered for Oklahoma families includes life skills training and education. So anyone leaving a center should also look into financial assistance to help them get established so the client can maintain their home or shelter.

Salvation Army Utility Assistance Programs Offer Relief Amid Inflation

Amid a record-breaking inflation rate, American households are having to make hard choices about how to spend their money, including on essentials like utilities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the cost of energy servicesincluding electricity and gashas increased nearly 20 percent in the last 12 months.

Utility assistance programs at Salvation Army corps in the Western U.S. are becoming vital lifelines for people in need of relief from rising costs.

Salvation Army Reno Corps Officer Major Darren Trimmer said the corps has seen a greater need for utility assistance.

Combined with all other items that have gone up as a result of inflation, gas and food, its made a significant dent in our clients overall financial budget. The clients are forced to make tough decisionson, Do I pay this or do I pay this? Trimmer said. Being able to help with energy assistance, it provides a little extra cushion.

The Reno Corps utility assistance program is funded through a grant thats annually awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency . With last years funds, the corps was able to help 127 people with utility bills.

And the demand for aid is high. Trimmer noted that people who havent sought assistance from The Salvation Army in a while have started to come back.

Because of prices, bills are a lotand so as we give it out, it goes quickly, Trimmer said.

Trimmer is hopeful that the program will help people in Reno get back on their feet.

The Salvation Army Heatshare Program Provides Assistance With Utility Bills For Households That Have Received A Shut

The Salvation Army offers utility assistance throughout Western Pennsylvania. Our social service caseworkers help families and individuals pay their utility bills when faced with financial crisis. In-person requests are received throughout the year during normal weekday hours, as well as telephone inquiries and referrals from other human service agencies. Moreover, many of our locations are partner agencies with The Dollar Energy Fund and individuals qualifying may complete an application onsite.

The Salvation Army recognizes a request for assistance with a utility shut off often involves a complex set of circumstances. For this reason, each applicant receives much more than the processing of his or her paperwork. Through a one-to-one interview, The Salvation Army caseworker aims to identify the other factors contributing to the household’s emergency situation and provides other forms of assistance, referrals, budget counseling, and emotional support as necessary. This holistic approach allows The Salvation Army to help in a way that reduces the likelihood of future crisis.

Salvation Army Sees Rise In Demand Drop In Red Kettle Campaign Donations

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Salvation Armys Red Kettle Campaign is in full swing this holiday season, a large fundraiser that helps support programs the Salvation Army provides to people in the Upstate.

Every time you see a red kettle, the money stays right here in our community, said Director of Community Relations & Development Bea Walters Smith.

Volunteers like Karen Scott ring the bell to help raise money.

Im part of a Sunday school class that we do this every year, and its just wonderful to be able to give back, said Scott.

Each holiday season, the Salvation Army aims to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars to help people with utility assistance, shelter, food, and more throughout the year.

But so far this year, the number of donations collected compared to years prior is not there.

Its down quite a bit. Our giving is down, said Walters Smith.

A leading theory as to why is the current state of the economy. Combined with the lower-than-expected donations at this point is an unprecedented level of people reaching out to the Salvation Army in need.

I field phone calls all day long, people asking for utility and rent assistance. We want to keep people in their homes. Our shelters are full, especially with the colder weather people need a place to go. We can provide a warm meal, a shower, and a place to sleep, explained Walters Smith.

As the countdown to Christmas is on, the rush to receive enough donations to meet the demand is there too.
