The Salvation Army Food Truck Delivers In Niagara Falls
Posted on 12th July 2022, by Caroline Franks Divisional News
The Salvation Armys Food Truck is on the road in Niagara Falls serving the local community with the help of mission partners. Thanks to donations and support from local businesses, The Salvation Army has been providing weekly meals in four locations since May.
The generosity from service partners such as The Lions Club, The Red Knights Retired Firefighters Motorcycle Club Niagara Chapter, Thorowest Bakery who donates 100 sub buns every week, The Meat Shoppe who donates deli meats and cheese once a month, Lococos who gives a box of fruit each week and Foodland in Chippawa who donates a variety of food items each month.
Since starting up the truck in late May, the number of meals has grown to 100 a week.
For the summer we are serving cold meals such as subs, salads and hearty sandwiches with fruit and water or coffee and a sweet treat. This is due to the heat and we are training many new mission partners, said Salvation Army Niagara Orchard Community Church Major Nancy Braye. We will start serving hot meals in the Fall which will be made in our church kitchen.
Major Nancy says when the truck started serving this Spring they received a very warm welcome.
To donate items to the truck please contact Major Nancy Braye at -358-8394.

Our Response To Covid
Before the COVID-19 crisis, many families in Detroit were already making tough decisions between paying rent or buying food. As unemployment remains alarmingly high and children continue to miss school lunches, the circumstances have only become more dire. In the spring of 2020, our trucks were retrofitted with secure serving windows to prevent personal contact and promote safety for people on both sides of the window. This has allowed the Bed & Bread Club to continue providing essentials for the people it serves throughout the pandemic.
Throughout the pandemic and beyond, Bed & Bread trucks served families and individuals who had never sought out a meal from The Salvation Army previously, with recipients often requesting additional meals for others in their household. Our truck drivers have also discovered an increased need for items other than a meal, so we are now providing coats, blankets, socks, hats, and food staples such as milk, cereal, fruit, vegetables, and canned and dry goods.
What you’ll do as a volunteer with The Bed & Bread Club®
12/01/2021 UPDATE: In the interest of the health and safety of our VOLUNTEERs and those we serve, Volunteer sandwich making OPPORTUNITies are currently not AVAILABLE.

The Richmond Hill/vaughan Salvation Army Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign Launch
Everyone is invited to attend with the Mayor of Richmond Hill David West and other members of city council, the official launch of the Richmond Hill Salvation Armys annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.
Location: just outside the food court by the very large JOY sign at Hillcrest
The Salvation Armys Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign obtains donations from the community to help those living in poverty and in need in our communities. The money raised in Richmond Hill and Vaughan stays in the community and enables the Salvation Army to continue their work locally, providing individuals and families the basic necessities of life to help them day to day.
Last year, the Richmond Hill Salvation Army helped more than 4100 adults and at-risk individuals with food, clothing, counseling and advocacy, distributed toys and food to over 400 families through the annual Christmas Assistance program and provided over 200 children with backpacks and school supplies. 1000 childrens and adults coats have already been collected and distributed this year.
The annual Christmas Kettle Campaign is the largest fundraising drive of the year for The Salvation Army and it would not be possible without the hundreds of kettle workers who volunteer their time. Individuals, families, businesses or community groups wishing to host a Christmas Kettle can register to volunteer by clicking HERE.
For more information please contact: Russ Horner, Christmas Kettle Coordinator at 905-737-0496 ext 118
The Salvation Army Offers Free Meals With Their Food Truck
Photo: Win Henderson
Around this time of year, many of your favorite storefronts are populated with those famous red donations buckets and cheerful Salvation Army volunteers ringing bells in their hands. Weve all seen them as the holiday season rolls around, but did you know the Salvation Army also has food trucks?
The Salvation Armys food trucks are part of their initiative to cure hunger across the nation. According to The Salvation Army, nearly 17 and a half million people go to bed hungry each night. Their initiative focuses on feeding young children, but meals are available for anyone who needs them, regardless of their age or background.
Food trucks from The Salvation Army are sent out in high areas of poverty, offering a free meal to anyone that comes to the window. Many residents in these areas rely on the trucks daily visit for their meals.
Humankind, a popular page for heartwarming viral videos, shared the story of a man named Gregory. Gregory works on the food truck, handing out meals every day but Gregorys life used to be very different. In fact, he relied on the same food truck to provide him with his own meals. The food truck was a highlight of his day, which often was filled with hunger and sadness. He considers the truck a blessing, and hopes to send some more good karma out into the world.
Its heartwarming and refreshing to see The Salvation Army working so hard to help communities throughout the country.

Feeding The Hungry In Detroit
Each day our Bed & Bread Club truck drivers make their way through Detroit, traveling multiple routes and making 57 stops to feed the hungry. That includes holidays and days when the weather may prove dangerous, because we understand that hunger doesn’t take any days off. On days so cold that schools and businesses must close and even the postal service can’t deliver mail, our trucks deliver hundreds of meals to people who otherwise would not eat at all.
As is the case in many cities across America, Detroit has its share of economically depressed areas, making access to quality food and shelter more difficult. The Bed & Bread Club is just one of many ways in which The Salvation Army strives to provide support for these Detroit communities.

Sign Up For Our FREE Daily eNews!
DERRY, NH Salvation Army volunteers in Derry will be distributing free pizza, burgers and hot dogs at certain times throughout the week starting next Tuesday, June 22, as part of its annual summer program to feed the hungry.
Lt. Tyler Adcox of the Salvation Army of Greater Derry said their Salvation Army food truck will be stationed in the parking area of The Fairways multi-family apartment complex located across Route 28 from the West Running Brook Middle School. The truck will be there from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for nine weeks in a row.
Anyone can come up and if theyre hungry, well feed anyone, Adcox said.
Theyll be there serving pizza from Paisanos Pizzeria on Tuesdays, hot dogs on Wednesdays and hamburgers on Thursdays, Adcox said.
On an average Tuesday, usually we go through about 80 to 100 slices of pizza, Adcox said.
Last year, the organization fed around 250 to 300 people over the course of the Summer Feeding Program. This years program ends on Aug. 19.
The Salvation Army tried other locations for the program in the past, including their own headquarters on Folsom Road, but they didnt get as much turnout, according to Adcox. They started setting up at the Fairways about three or four years ago, he said.
To qualify, they need to make an appointment to assess their needs, and students must be residents of Derry, Londonderry or Windham.
