The Suncor Energy Foundation is donating $40,000 to the organization to help them open a drop off-site at the old AMP building on Franklin Avenue.
The Salvation Army Thrift Store closed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and remains closed after Aprils flood.
While the store is still expected to be six to eight weeks away from opening, the clothing will go towards helping anyone who needs it.
If someone is in need they can call our community helpline at 780-743-4135 and say they need clothing and what size and through the donations that we get from our community we will put a package together so that a child, an adult or a senior in our community can get some winter clothing, said Edna Olson-Moman, Salvation Army Executive Director.
The site will be a drive-through style with staff removing the donations from the vehicles weekdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Theyre also looking at bringing in more staff so they can accept donations on the weekends.
We try to make a difference in the lives of people. We dont have any type of means scale if you tell us youre vulnerable we take you for your word, added Olson-Moman.
Right now, the Salvation Army is looking to obtain fall and winter clothing.

Is The Salvation Army Really An Army
The Salvation Army is not a physical army in the military sense, but rather a global army of people moved to humanitarian action through faith. This organizational style has proven effective in making the Army a highly disciplined and mobile organization, able to respond quickly and efficiently to human need whenever and wherever it arises.
Salvation Army Officers hold the ranks for Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel, Commissioner, and our International Leader, the General. Church members are called Soldiers, being easily identified by their navy blue uniforms, and we refer to our churches as Corps. Our Area Commander and Citadel Officers are ordained pastors and leaders of our Area Command and Citadel Corps.
The Salvation Army is a Christian ministry that provides services to anyone regardless of religion or beliefs. We are called to serve in Christâs name without discrimination and value each person as Godâs creation who are loved beyond measure.
Members of The Salvation Army include:
*Officers *members of various activity groups and volunteers

“Every business has been affected, and some people do have their doubts but we are very fortunate to have 45 people allowed in the store at a time. We also have things to wash your hands, hand sanitizer and masks available for all customers.”
Kalia wanted to assure the public that all donations are subject to a period of quarantine before they are added to the store’s inventory.
“On the donations side we do have the quarantine policy, we keep our distance and we have the carts. They can donate their things in the carts or if they have a small bag, they can leave it and we will pick it up and put it in the quarantine bin.”
Donations can be dropped off during the hours 9 am to 9 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am – 7 pm on Saturday, and 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday.

The Salvation Army in Austin, Texas was formed in February 1889, and since then the Army has been helping people in our community for more than 133 years.

Where Can We Donate Used Items
At-home pick-ups
For the many people who do not have access to a truck or who are unable to move heavy objects or appliances, at-home collection or pick-up services can be very useful.
Many community organizations are able to collect the items from your home. Please note, however, that these services are in high demand, especially during moving season. Always contact the organization to check their availability: waiting lists can be long.
Each organization serves a very specific territory. When you are looking up an organizations file on our website, be sure to always check the «territory» fields under the «general information» tab. When in doubt, give us a call!
Please note: due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some organizations do not provide at-home pick-ups anymore. You can find this information in the «details in the service offer» section of the search results on our site:
Drop-off and pick-up points
The majority of organizations that accept donations have one or more warehouses or drop-off points in which to receive them.
However, many of them have limited storage capacity, which is why you should always contact the organization by telephone or email, beforehand, to make sure they can accept your donation.
Also check the opening hours of the drop-off points. Never leave your donations in front of their door, outside working hours, unless otherwise specified. Doing so can lead to a waste of time and resources.
