The Salvation Army Announces Closing Of Johnstown Dental Center
JOHNSTOWN, PA The Salvation Army Western PA Division announces today that it will close its Johnstown dental center in January and in its place, we hope to offer financial assistance for the dental healthcare needs of the most vulnerable in the community.
The Salvation Army is developing a financial dental assistance program for local patients who are not insured or who lack the funding to pay in full for dental services, despite the closing of its brick-and-mortar dental center.
We are laying the foundation to work with local dentists to offer this assistance to vulnerable populations in Johnstown who need this critical care, said Major Gregory Hartshorn, Commanding Officer, The Salvation Army Western PA Division. Many of us have experienced the urgent need for a dentist, whether its a toothache or a dental emergency that requires immediate attention. While our center is closing its physical doors, the support for these services will remain as we work to create new partnerships and identify funding to continue this critical work in the community.
The Salvation Army Johnstown Dental Center had initially planned to move to a new location in November, but experienced obstacles in the wake of rental property issues that had not come to light until the move was imminent. This center had been operating in the community since its opening in 2013.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. Barely two months after announcing its dental center would relocate this month from downtown Johnstown to Upper Yoder Township, the Salvation Army Western Pennsylvania Division now says the center will instead permanently close this month.
In its place, we hope to offer financial assistance for the dental health care needs of the most vulnerable in the community, the organization said in a press release.
Maj. Gregory Hartshorn, division commander, said the groundwork is being put into place for the assistance program.
We are laying the foundation to work with local dentists to offer this assistance to vulnerable populations in Johnstown who need this critical care, Hartshorn said.
The dental center has operated in the Feeder Canal Building, 647 Main St., since it opened in 2013. In November, the Salvation Army announced plans to move to a new location on Goucher Street in Upper Yoder Township. Issues with the rental property recently came to light, scrapping the planned move, the press release said.

The Salvation Army Johnstown Dental Center Prepares For Move New Location To Be Fully Open And Operational In Coming Weeks
The Salvation Army Johnstown Dental Center is moving to a new location and is expected to be fully open and operational in its new building located at 670 Goucher Street, Johnstown, PA 15905 by mid-November.
Located just across the street from the Hiram G. Andrews building, the new location allows for the dental center to continue offering low-cost dental care to local individuals and families in need. The building also is easily accessible to all as it is located across the street from a public transit stop.
Moving into this new location makes sense for The Salvation Army Johnstown Dental Center, as this space had already operated as an existing dental office, said Captain Ted Tressler, The Salvation Army Western PA Divisional Secretary for Property. This move allows us to offer our services seamlessly and allows us to minimize any disruptions to care that may typically occur during a move of this kind. We are thrilled to continue to offer the reliable, low-cost dental services we have always offered to the Johnstown community.
The previous location of the dental center has been sold.

OIL CITY, Pa. The Salvation Army Oil City Dental Center is currently seeking a new dentist and hiring additional staff, offering opportunities to professionals in the area who are dedicated to serving families and individuals in need.
As of this week, Dr. Matthew Kulinski is no longer providing services at The Salvation Army Oil City Dental Center. As a result, the center will temporarily be without a dentist. This transition requires The Salvation Army Oil City Dental Center to instate a temporary pause on some dental services for new patients as it goes through the hiring process.

Johnstown Salvation Army Closing
The Salvation Army of Cambria County is closing down after plans to move the facility were cancelled. Officials say they planned to move the Johnstown facility in November, but due to unforeseen rental property issues, they were unable to do so. The Center had been operating in the Community since 2013.
Captain Erin Smullen of the Johnstown Salvation Army saying: Moving in the financial crisis has been very difficult. Its been a burden for a couple years now and they kind of pushed us along with COVID and everything else that added up to all of it. But really, a lack of a suitable facility was the biggest point in making this decision we are at now.
Officials say despite the closure, they still hope to offer financial aid for dental healthcare for those who are unable to afford it.
