Purdue Center Of Hope
Services were provided in donated space until the 1970s, when Abe Plough chaired a capital campaign to repurpose a building for dormitory space at 200 Monroe. When that was sold to make room for AutoZone Park, the Kemmons Wilson family led the campaign to build the first specially designed Purdue Center of Hope at 696 Jackson.
Opened in 2000, with three shelters housing 122 people each night, today it is the largest provider of shelter and services to homeless women and children in Memphis. Addiction recovery, job placement and permanent housing are just some of the outcomes. Additionally, the Angel Tree program brings Christmas joy to thousands of children and seniors in need each Christmas, often preventing eviction or utility cutoff and our Canteen Ministry and disaster relief continues to bring caring assistance to the front lines.

At the Salvation Army, our doors are open every day and night of the year. Through our emergency housing facilities, homeless shelters, transitional living centers, group homes, and family shelters, we provide over 10 million nights of lodging annually. In addition to supplying shelter from the elements, beds, food, and basic hygiene resources to those in need, we help combat long-term homelessness in America by serving homeless adults, veterans, and children with holistic physical, emotional, and spiritual support.
Striving to solve homelessness in Miami, our shelter provides a safe transitional environment to up to 260 persons at a time including women, men, and families. A dedicated team of experts works consistently with the objective that our residents become self-sufficient and move to permanent housing, the average stay being 90 days. Services include all meals, periodical medical visits, assistance for benefits, and extensive case management to reach clients psychological, sociological, and concrete needs. HIV education, Narcotics and Alcoholic Anonymous meetings are available as needed.

The Center Of Hopes Housing Tower Will Be Comprised Of Permanent Supportive Housing Studio Apartments For Homeless Individuals And One Staff Unit
Each furnished studio will be approximately 400 square feet and will include a small, equipped kitchen and a bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower. Additional apartment amenities will include a community room, social services offices, computer room, and laundry.
The permanent supportive housing will target homeless, single adult men and women, veterans and non-veterans, living at or below 30% to 40% of area median income.
The Salvation Army is particularly qualified to develop and operate the PSH due to its extensive experience serving the homeless, including through permanent supportive housing projects, including a 65-unit project that opened last year in the City of Bell.

Camp Keystone Each summer, up to 10 low-income Nassau children ages 7-12 experience 5 days of wonder, excitement and adventure at Camp Keystone, our Salvation Army camp in Keystone Heights.
Smart Start for School Qualifying children from low-income families beam when they receive their school supplies & backpacks just in time for the first day of school. Local businesses, churches & individuals provided 97 age-specific backpacks & supplies for some of the neediest students in 2017.
Senior Angel Tree In partnership with the Council on Aging, low-income seniors are not forgotten at Christmas. Churches, businesses, clubs & groups adopt one or more senior, & then purchase gifts & gift cards for them based on their wish lists, bringing them joy providing them hope & raising their awareness that they are not forgotten. 183 Seniors were lavished in love in 2017 through this program.

2021 marks the 155th anniversary of The Salvation Army and the 130th anniversary of The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida. In 1865, William and Catherine Booth founded The Salvation Army in London, England and the good work of the Army has existed ever since. In 1891, The Salvation Army began serving the people of Northeast Florida. Since that time, we have been providing food, clothing, shelter and countless services to assist those in need.
The Northeast Florida Area Command includes social service operations in Jacksonville, the Citadel Corps , as well as corps in St Augustine and Clay County, the Nassau County Hope House, and assistance programs in Baker and Putnam counties. In Jacksonville The Salvation Armys Towers Center of Hope includes a shelter for women and families, low-cost housing for men, a community food pantry serving 1,000 households each month, and a meal ministry that serves a hot meal to the hungry every night of the year. In 1924, The Salvation Army started the Adult Rehabilitation Center for men struggling with addictions such as alcoholism and drug abuse.
As we look back over our years of service, especially 2020, one of the most unique and challenging years in our history, we feel a great appreciation for our devoted supporters who have lead our Area Command through many valleys and peaks.

Salvation Army New Center Of Hope Going Vertical
People were scribbling with permanent markers all over the interior of their new building Monday afternoon and Josh and Amanda Keaton could not have been happier.
The building is the new Salvation Army Center of Hope, which is under construction in downtown Concord after a three-year fundraising campaign, and the scribblers were supporters inscribing Bible verses on the exposed framing so that messages of hope and renewal would always be present within Cabarrus and Stanly counties new homeless shelter.
It has been a long time coming, said Capt. Josh Keaton, who with his wife Capt. Amanda Keaton, is the leader of the Salvation Army of Cabarrus and Stanly counties. A new shelter has been needed for years. We did a Mission Study in 2018 which identified the need for a new shelter, and starting raising funds in 2019. Then COVID hit, he said. The additional costs of operating our existing facilities through the pandemic, along with the recent price increases for building materials, made it not really an ideal time to embark on a major fundraising campaign.

The environmental issues came to light when workers came to fix some plumbing issues in May, Raymer said.
Thats when we realized there were issues in the building with environmental concerns, he said Friday afternoon.
The organization is awaiting a final report before disclosing what contaminants have been found. We just dont have all of the information at this time, Raymer said.
A notice on the door at the Salvation Army Center of Hope informs people that the shelter on South Eugene Street in Greensboro is closed. Despite losing the use of the building, a spokesman said The Salvation Army of Greensboro is currently serving 110 families with its housing programs.
On top of the environmental problems, Raymer said workers have discovered other structural concerns with the 20-year-old building.
The testing and discovery process has been lengthy and expensive. As of right now, were well into the six-figure range of testing, Raymer said.
The fate of the facility is unclear. Asked if it will ultimately need to be relocated or rebuilt, Salvation Army spokesman Nathan Lawson said in an email that numerous scenarios have been discussed.
Until we have a clear understanding from the final report, we cannot determine the best course for The Center of Hope, he said. The current objective is to understand the totality of the issue at hand.

The Center Of Hope Will Be The Operational Hub Of The Homeless Throughput System Providing Essential Care Support And Services Through A Pathway Of Empowerment That Will Guide Residents Toward A New Life Of Physical Emotional And Spiritual Health And The Joy And Dignity Of True Personal Autonomy
The Homeless Throughput System seeks to get people off the streets and reintegrated back into the community. The goal is for individuals to spend three to six months in the centers facilities to complete the program.
First base represents 60 to 90 days in our low-barrier emergency shelter. Once the 60 to 90 days are completed, they will move to second base, which is placement in supportive housing. At third base, the residents will be enrolled in a life transformation program that focuses on achieving sobriety, mental wellness, and work training. The combination of the work training and mental health aims to inspire a life transformation, which represents self-sufficiency, independence, and preparation to become contributing members of society once again.

The Beginnings Of An Army
Booth family then moved to London, and William was often invited to speak at various church services. One evening, he was passing by a local pub called The Blind Beggar where a group of Christians were speaking to the crowd. After noticing William, the leader asked him to speak by the end of the night, the Christians asked if he would like to speak regularly at their tent meetingsWilliam would gladly accept.
Finally, in 1865, it was decided that this group should formally organize. So, in July, the East London Christian Mission was begun. William Booth was selected as the groups General Superintendent, and the organization was run by committee.
Okay, but how did The East London Christian Mission become The Salvation Army?
Bramwell Booth and George Scott Railton were reviewing the annual report when the title page said, The Christian Mission is a Volunteer Army. Bramwell argued that he was no volunteer but a regular. William Booth strode over to the table, crossed out the word volunteer and wrote salvation. The Christian Mission was now a Salvation Army.
At the War Congress of 1878, Booth announced that evangelists would now be called Captains, and their assistants would be Lieutenants. He was now the General, and more instructions would follow. The Christian Mission Magazine was renamed to The War Cry. Ranks and uniforms would all eventually evolve as the group exploded with growth, not only in Britain, but all over the world.
